Good News Coming!!

We would like to inform you that Arquikids is travelling to Helsinky, Finland in June.
We are visiting ARKKI , School Of Architecture for children and youth www.arkki.net . This school was found in 1993 by three architects: Tuuli Tiitola-Meskanen,Miina Vuorinen and
Pihla Meskanen.

Annualy Arkki arrange various courses in arhitecture for 800 students from 3 to 19 years old with 25 architects working as facilitators.

The Director Pihla Meskanen invites us to attend the summer course during one week.
In summer they give a special one week long courses for children (monday to friday, from 9 to 4 in the afternoon)
The topics are; architecture and modelling, product design, arts and crafts, hut building (happening outside, involving building in 1:1 scale)

It´s a great opportunity for Arquikids to observe and learn from a school like this.

Aims of Architecture Education


Architecture education aims to develop a child´s ability to perceive , consider,
understand,conceptualize and evaluate his or her enviroment.

Architecture education supports the development of individual cultural identity, with helps us belong to our country and to humankinds.

We focus on experiencing the world with all the senses, to stimulate the senses and to evoke the imagination and creativity.

Design provides opportunities for learning of different kinds.It creates knowledge and understanding of how we shape and manage our enviroment and how we choose to live.

Design is about what we do not know.It is about imagining the future and making it happen.
In design education, we are enabling young people to explore how the enviroment impacts upon them and how they in turn might impact upon it.

Learning by Design

Learning by design means creating a framework of experiencies and activities for the young people to learn. Teaching here is not an instruction. It is not merely providing information or explanation. It is supporting the learning activities by creating a framework for learning, encouraging a questioning attitude, providing learning strategies and presenting an appropriate role model.



We especially would like to say thanks to Kristin Mullaney, architect from the Architecture in Education Program in Philadelphia, for her support, constant collaboration and advices received
for the beginning of ARQUIKIDS.
